In the event of...

  • Call the JSU Police Department at 256-782-5050 or 911 for emergencies immediately; explain to the dispatcher what is happening.
  • Be sure to provide good directions to the dispatcher.

  • When you call 256-782-5050 or 911 for emergency services, stay on the line and give the following information:
    • Your name, telephone number and exact location.
    • The location of the emergency.
    • The nature and extent of the emergency (i.e., are there injuries, how many, etc.)
  • Be informed and prepared in advance. Do not wait until an emergency strikes to know what to do.

Exit the Area Immediately

Response to Fire Alarms

In Case of Lightning:

  1. Stay away from telephones, electrical appliances, and plumbing.

Gas Leak

Water Leak and Power Failure (Non-Emergency Failures)

If You...

If You Receive a Bomb Threat

  1. Remain Calm.
  2. Keep the caller on the line as long as possible.
  3. Listen carefully to the caller's voice and words.
  4. Record the time and caller ID number if shown.

    • When will it explode?
    • What does the bomb look like?

    • Background noises
    • Gender of the caller
    • Voice pitches and patterns
    • Any other information that stands out or seems unusual to you
